Email protection: what we’re seeing, what we’re doing & what you can do
Since late March we have been seeing an uptick in malicious emails.
These emails may take many forms, but in general they have these characteristics:
The emails appear to come from someone you know. BUT, if you look at the email address it came from, it did not come from them or their address.
The emails have attachments, links or other things that require you to open them. DO NOT OPEN or CLICK ON ANY LINK.
If your anti-virus software is up-to-date, some bad attachments may be blocked, but don’t test your protection. Just delete the email. .
The email appear to be coming from international accounts.
What FMCTC is doing?
We are quarantining any email with attachments that came from international accounts.
We are notifying customers to always double check the sender’s email address, ESPECIALLY if there are attachments or links.
We have enhanced the services we use to monitor and protect you and us from these threats to keep up with changing circumstances.
What should you do?
Be suspicious of all emails.
Check the sender email address BEFORE opening attachments or clicking on links.
If you’re not sure, using the info you have on file for that person or company, contact them to verify that they emailed you.
Keep your antivirus up-to-date.
Keep your Windows software up-to-date.
